The Silurian of South America was dominated by a brachiopod called Clarkeia — related to what we find here.
Why this matters for growers: the Malvinokaffric assemblage is found in Bokkeveld shale, which weathers into the clay subsoil of the Swartland and Boland. Marine fossils = calcium carbonate (pH buffer), trace minerals, phosphate. Your soil literally carries the chemistry of a vanished ocean.
