Dry sift vs bubble hash: which one suits the Cape better?

I have spent the week reading up on solventless extraction, and there is a solid guide doing the rounds on Overgrow that compares dry sift with ice water extraction properly. It got me thinking about which method actually suits the Western Cape, so here is my reasoning so far.

Dry sift is the oldest trick in the book. You freeze the material for 24 to 48 hours, keep humidity under 60%, and work it over screens at 150, 120, 90 and 73 micron. Purely mechanical separation, no water, no solvent. Bubble hash swaps the screens for ice cold water and agitation, then grades the catch through the same micron logic. The Overgrow guide puts 90 to 73 micron in the premium full melt range, with 160 to 120 as the lower grade and 45 to 25 as the ultra refined tail.

Where it gets interesting for us is climate. Dry sift hates humidity. Our summer harvests run into long dry spells, and if you cure right, your material sits below that 60% mark for months. That is a real advantage. Bubble hash does not care about humidity the same way, but it needs clean water and a cold room to dry properly afterwards, and in summer that is harder to manage without equipment.

There is also the terroir angle. Durbanville sits on Cape Granite and Malmesbury shale, which gives the soil a mineral profile heavy in potassium from the K-feldspar and silica from the quartzite. Trusswell covers this in The Geological Evolution of South Africa. The potassium feeds resin production and the silica strengthens cell walls and trichome stalks, so the plant does the work and solventless just gets out of the way. That is the whole point of the hash renaissance. Buyers are chasing full spectrum products that keep the original profile, and testing now demands transparency on residual solvents and microbial counts, which pushes more producers toward solventless anyway.

I am not saying bubble hash is wrong. I run both depending on the crop. But if you are on a budget in the Cape and your summers stay dry, dry sift gets you a clean full melt product without buying much beyond screens and a cold chest.
